Innovation Manager - Pacers Sports & Entertainment (Indianapolis, IN)

PS&E is currently seeking an Innovation Manager who will be responsible for executing innovation initiatives across our portfolio. Responsibilities include actively identifying and driving key initiatives through PS&E’s design-thinking based innovation engine process to quickly gain economic upside and/or operational efficiencies. The main responsibilities for projects include (1) leading the ideation development and feasibility stages of innovation projects, (2) serving as the lead liaison to all internal and external stakeholders (3) facilitating ideation sessions, meetings and working with stakeholders to develop innovative solutions, and (4) championing innovative methodologies and solutions for Pacers Sports & Entertainment, its brands and its stakeholders.

The Principal Responsibilities Will Be as Follows:

Research and Documentation

Research and identify key market trends in sports & entertainment and remain abreast of strengths and weaknesses of internal and competitive solutions, as well as current and probable competitive product offerings, in conjunction with marketing, sales, facilities, and other internal/external stakeholders
Research, document, and communicate advantages and weaknesses of potential new technologies (both internal and external to sports & entertainment industry) that may be of value in contemplating PS&E’s innovative solutions
Identify major risks concerning the feasibility of our innovation lab solutions and provide actionable recommendations and steps to mitigate those risks, with input from internal & external stakeholders
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Innovation Development

Manage innovation process for key initiatives including: discovery, ideation, research, creation and testing, overall feasibility assessment, and solution transfer to the appropriate internal teams.
Soliciting ideas from the company through the process and working with our internal Strategic Task Force to match with issues/opportunities the company faces.
Create and execute plans to test potential innovative solutions during alpha development and/or feasibility design and testing. This will include recruiting participants, in conjunction with internal teams, and overseeing their experience throughout the process.
Plan, prepare, and document cost, time, resource, and risk estimates for solution roll-outs, leveraging strong collaboration and input from internal/external stakeholders
Ensure a collaborative working environment with internal teams to facilitate smooth transition solutions from process to action
Participate in mock-ups/prototype development
Participate in PS&E research projects at large

Spokesperson and Champion for Innovation inside and outside PS&E

Work closely with VP Brand Strategy & Development to facilitate and execute successful sessions to inspire, ideate, investigate, and implement innovative solutions. Collaborate on all aspects of managing innovation efforts.
Prepare and present innovation presentations for industry conferences, senior leadership and ownership, and other stakeholders
Act as a sounding board for innovative solutions internally while working to ‘push the boundaries’ of expectations with internal and external stakeholders
Other duties as required

Position Requirements

At a minimum, each candidate should possess the following skills, experience and background:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in business, economics, marketing, sports, organizational psychology or related field desired.
5+ years of experience required, preferably in the sports, entertainment, and/or technology industries.
Deep experience of the sports & entertainment industries, design thinking, and innovation development, as well as familiarity with PS&E’s brands, including an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that currently exist.
Project management experience, from initiation and planning, to implementation and ongoing management, to completion.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills that contribute to overall organizational performance and to a positive, creative work environment.
Demonstrated ability and comfort using various software programs, internet sites, databases, and other data solutions. Must be able to self-teach, problem solve, and trouble shoot independently using available resources.
Demonstrated desire and ability to ‘push the envelope’ of current thinking by actively and independently researching and learning from all industries.
Intermediate business and financial forecasting and modeling skills.
Strong relationship building skills, with the ability to work with people from many disciplines and backgrounds at all levels of various organizations.
Ability to sell ideas, products, and services to a sometimes-reluctant audience.
Able to maintain flexibility, openness, and positive attitude when balancing multiple projects, assignments, and tasks and shifting priorities
Ability to operate with limited direction/supervision using effective planning, time management, organization, prioritization, and attention to detail skills.
Willing to be empowered and held accountable for results. Ability to manage up.
Demonstrate ability to clearly and effectively communicate information, from executives to front-line staff, to both internal and external audiences, via telephone, email, in person, and in writing.
Demonstrated analytical skills, sound judgment, problem identification, problem resolution and decision- making skills. Effective demonstration of determining options and selecting appropriate strategies or methods.
High degree of professionalism, tact and sensitivity to strengthen Pacers Sports & Entertainment image in the marketplace.
Must be able to operate in a very fast paced office environment.
Demonstrated ability to drive measurable results, even in the face of opposition.
