New Horizons Rehabilitation Inc. is a non-profit service provider for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and we are hiring full-time and part-time Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join our team in Batesville, Brookville, Lawrenceburg, Milan, Oldenburg, Osgood, Rising Sun and Sunman.

Our Community Connections DSPs help our clients reach their individual goals by teaching life skills and helping our clients connect to people in their communities. Our residential Direct Support Professionals provides the supports necessary for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to have full access to their community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing personal assistance, instructing in activities of daily living and task completion, as well as transportation to and from community resources and events. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is helpful, but not required. Please go to www.nhrinc.org to submit your application.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Complete all duties and responsibilities in accordance to the agency policies and procedures according to the employee Code of Ethics.
• Maintain compliance to governing authorities as Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) Division of Disability, Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DDARS), Bureau of Developmental Disabilities (BDDS), Bureau of Quality Improvement Services (BQIS), Medicaid, Social Security Administration (SSA), Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR), agency policies, fiscal policies, etc.
• Provide transportation to and from community resources as directed.
• Establish relationships within the consumer’s community as applicable to the program or staff assignment.
• Provide daily living skills training and/or assistance in accomplishing tasks to meet program plan outcome.
• Assure that efforts are undertaken to implement individual choice and preference in a manner that supports the respect and dignity of persons served.
• Responsible for understanding and implementing the service plan and ratio utilization.
• Support a positive team-oriented work environment.
• Provide instruction, training and response to persons served issues.
• Able and willing to provide personal assistance as needed in a respectful and dignified manner.
• Dependable and available to work all assigned shifts, including weekends, according to scheduling requirements of the program of assignment or responsible in providing adequate notice to supervisor in the event of an emergency.
• Complete other duties and responsibilities as requested or required by state or agency guideline changes that support the mission and purpose of New Horizons.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, supervisor, families, providers and other agency personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to safety operate a vehicle throughout the community and provide services in home/community environments as needed.
• Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
Minimum Qualifications: Be 18 years or older; Have at least a High School Diploma or GED; Have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and auto insurance; Be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check

Experience assisting people with disabilities is preferred, but we are willing to train candidates with the desire to help others become independent in their homes and communities.
