JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant I in the Health Center is responsible for the following essential job functions: Provides patient care that takes into account the patient's needs, problems, capabilities, limitations and progress towards goals Measures and records vital signs, heights, weights, and other parameters including pain assessment Interviews patient and records history, chief complaint, other findings Calls prescriptions (except Schedule II medications) to pharmacy for the provider per written orders Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests including EKGs Assists provider with exams and minor office procedures Collects and processes lab specimens including phlebotomy Monitors follow-up of tests and lab studies done and notifies provider Performs point-of-care testing, including pertinent quality control testing, documenting results Prepares and administers medications (with exceptions per organizational or site-specific guidelines) with provider written order Demonstrates competence/accountability in the administration of medications, treatments, performing tests Changes/applies dressings, removes sutures, other minor procedures Performs CPR when needed Accurately, legibly, legally documents findings, services provided (including medication administration), education/instructions given, completes other required documentation REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an education program for the medical assistant CPR certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is preferred) Current TB education certification is preferred
