About the job We are seeking a Principal Software Developer to participate in the development of enterprise class web services. This role is within Liberty Mutual's US Consumer Markets IT division which supports millions of customers on a nationwide basis. Your role and responsibilities You will be responsible for work in all stages of the development lifecycle, from reviewing user stories, to design, to construction and test, to deployment. The industry changes quickly, so we are looking for candidates who can respond to change, pick up new technologies quickly and adapt to changing requirements. We value quality code delivery and expect candidates to demonstrate competence at writing, testing and debugging complex Java code. You will work closely with the development team and Product Owners in a fully scaled Agile environment. In addition to coding and testing, responsibilities can include presenting designs for architect reviews to meeting with external service providers to define back end services and interfaces. This role presents an opportunity to lead and mentor more junior developers and help build their skills by developing highly competitive solutions with ties to our Personal Insurance innovation programs and telematics initiatives. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of market-leading solutions that support independent insurance agents, internal sales professionals, and internal support staff. The work environment Our team structure is supportive and efficient. Timelines can be tight and sometimes multitasking is required. Often team members are called upon to help debug especially difficult defects or make quick design decisions to address last minute requirements changes. The pace can be lively and good teamwork and leadership skills are essential. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in technical discipline preferably computer science or software development. Generally 7+ years of professional development experience. Extensive knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, methodologies, architectures and technical standards. Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills. Experience with layered system architectures and layered solutions; understanding of shared software concepts. Java / J2EE development experience using IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS 6+) or comparable. Experience with HTML, JavaScript, XML/XSD, Web Services. Experience with Unit Testing frameworks (eg, Junit, Mockito, Cucumber). TDD (Test Driven Development) and BDD (Behavioral Driven Development) experience. Experience with IBM Integration Designer, WebSphere Integration Developer (WID) is a plus.
